"The burning opportunist"

Film: Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

Alias: Titanus Rodan, the Fire Demon, the One Born of Fire

Type: Ancient

Location: Civilized area/Ocean

Height/Weight: 46.9 meters and 265.5 metric tons.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: It just would be a waste if Legendary didn't also include one of Toho's most popular kaiju in the line of monsters that Godzilla has faced. But never has the big flyer ever been so unpredictable nor somewhat pathetic. If you can call such a destructive creature pathetic, that is.

History: A massive pterosaur from ancient times, Rodan had been sleeping beneath a dormant volcano located in Isla de Mara, the one he was born in, for millions of years. MONARCH made sure he was contained, but the eco-terrorists who freed Ghidorah awakened him as well. Sure enough, Rodan was immediately hostile to all, but it couldn't save him from being savaged by Ghidorah himself, whom he bowed down to first to save his own hide.

Notable Kills: An entire squadron of fighter jets vs. an ancient flying reptile. One aileron roll maneuver later, and only the latter is still in the air.

Final Fate: Ghidorah has Rodan carry out his bidding the most out of the other titans, calling him in to face off against Mothra. While he manages to wound her considerably, the giant insect ultimately gets the drop on him by impaling his chest with her stinger, leaving him an agonized heap on the floor. After Ghidorah was vanquished, Rodan roared in defiance at Godzilla...only to then bow down to him before settling down at a volcano near Fiji. Despite his crimes, he is now a tourist attraction.

Powers/Abilities: Rodan is extremely fast in the air, able to out-maneuver any other flying object. Because he's been living in a volcano for so long, he's got a hide covered in hardened magma. In fact, his whole body has the stuff flowing through his veins, with bits of it leaking off his wings. And of course, should he fly too close to the ground, everything below gets swept away by hurricane winds.

Weakness: Beings of equal or greater power. Any that defeat and/or outclass him will have him swear allegiance to them.

Scariness Factor: 4-With a design that screams power in the sky and a theme that elicits absolute panic, Rodan is not a Titan you want to see coming. It doesn’t help that he prefers to fight for the strongest side, which paints him less as a guardian of the Earth like the other Titans and more a dirty coward. It's more than likely that Godzilla has to keep him on a very short leash.

Trivia: -Originally, Rodan was going to look a lot more like a bird, complete with feathers. It's ironic, considering this mirrors the development of the original Rodan, who very nearly looked like a kaiju Archaeopteryx.

-Out of all the main kaiju in his debut film, Rodan was Michael Dougherty's favorite, with him making sure he did him justice. While this did mean that Rodan got one of the more memorable scenes in the finished product, we don’t know what to say about a Titan who specializes in being everyone's second banana. Then again, Dougherty did acknowledge that Rodan is more of a sidekick than anything.

Anyone flying the sky won't look at this formation the same way again.

They're about to remember what happened in the FIRST Rodan film...

"There's only room for one flier #2 in this movie!"
Long live the fire demon.

Should have just fired baking powder into his mouth.

Where's the whistle?! WHERE'S THE WHISTLE?!
Critics certainly saw red...

(Immature airplane noises)

What, are you Rodan or Terrosaur?
Cue the most panic-inducing track in the film.

Simple. Scream and flip the table over.

"HOW LONG WAS I GONE?!"

Prepare yourselves for the sequel, all kaiju. You might not live...
